My name is Mrs. Lisa Hendershott-Kraetzer, and I will be your child’s eighth grade history teacher on the Gold team. I hope you had a productive and relaxing summer. I’m welcoming you back and am excited about the possibilities this school year presents for all of us: your child, you and me. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you, both personally and professionally.
I began teaching in 1986 at Western Middle School and have been teaching eighth grade for twenty-six years. I graduated from Western High School in 1981 and attended Hope College, majoring in English and history, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in 1985. In examining my goals my senior year, I decided I wanted to be able to share my love of learning so I applied to and was accepted at Michigan State University, where I earned my teaching credentials. I entered graduate school soon after obtaining my teaching position and earned an MA in English from Western Michigan University. I have been married for twenty-four years to my husband, Kirk, who is a professor of English at Olivet College.
Throughout this year I will make it my mission to build your child’s self-esteem through the respect I will show him/her. I will instill in your child that choices determine outcomes, and analyzing those outcomes gives him/her the ability to reach whatever goals and dreams s/he has. Each child, your child, deserves nothing other than my best every day.
I look forward to getting to know you and your child throughout this school year. There will be many opportunities for your involvement in an exciting year of activities. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns as, simply stated, helping your child succeed is my mission.
